Requirements
The Vision
The market is flooded with massive, bloated drum kits containing hundreds of recycled sounds. When creating Vandal, my goal wasn’t quantity; it was pure, unadulterated quality and utility.
I wanted to design a collection of 808s that don’t require a chain of five different distortion and EQ plugins just to sound decent. I wanted these samples to sound massive the second you drag and drop them into your sampler. "Vandal" was engineered to bring that raw, aggressive, and rebellious energy to your tracks, giving your low-end the attitude it deserves without compromising mix clarity.

Creating a professional-grade 808 pack requires a lot more than just boosting the bass on a sine wave. Here is a breakdown of the exact sound design process I used to engineer the Vandal pack:
Advanced Wave Shaping & Synthesis
Every single sample in the Vandal pack started its life as a clean, clinical sine wave. Using a mix of analog-modeled synthesizers and digital wave-shapers, I gently introduced harmonic saturation. By carefully adding odd and even harmonics, I ensured that these 808s wouldn't just rattle subwoofers; they will actually cut through and be heard clearly on small mobile phone speakers and laptops.
Surgical Distortion & Warmth
To give the "Vandal" pack its signature aggressive edge, I applied multi-band distortion and wave-folding techniques. Instead of destroying the entire frequency spectrum (which results in a muddy, unusable low end), I kept the subfrequencies (20Hz–60Hz) clean and compressed, while saturating the midrange to add grit, texture, and character.
Precise Transient Designing
An 808 needs to punch you in the chest the millisecond it hits. I meticulously shaped the attack transients of each sample. Some 808s in this pack feature a built-in, hard-hitting "knock" (eliminating the absolute need for a separate kick drum), while others have a smooth, linear fade-in perfect for complex sliding basslines.

The "Cut Itself" Trick: In FL Studio, make sure to right-click your Vandal sampler channel and select "Cut Itself". This prevents long tails from overlapping and creating a muddy low-end clash.
Add Slide Notes: Because of the rich harmonic mid-range of the longer Vandal samples, they sound incredible when used with pitch slides. Double-click a note in your piano roll and turn on the "Slide" option to hear the distortion sweep beautifully across octaves.
