BRUTAL 808s Pack is a professional-grade, multi-tonal sample toolkit engineered specifically for music production genres like hip-hop, trap, drill, and modern electronic music. An "808" in modern music production refers to the deep, elongated sub-bass tones that anchor the low-end frequency spectrum of a song.

- If you’ve ever loaded up a sample, turned the distortion all the way up, and still felt like your track lacked that aggressive, chest-hitting low end, you are not alone. Making heavy-hitting 808s that maintain clarity without turning into a muddy mess is one of the hardest tasks in modern music production.
- That frustration is exactly why I spent weeks locked in the studio creating the BRUTAL 808s Pack. I wanted to build a collection of bass samples that don't just rumble, they slice through a mix with raw power, character, and absolute precision.
Vision Behind It
A lot of modern 808 packs rely purely on hard clipping to achieve saturation. While that works for some genres, it often destroys the fundamental sub-frequency, leaving you with a buzzing sound that lacks real weight.
My goal with the BRUTAL 808s Pack was different:
- Retain the Sub: Ensure the foundational low-end frequencies remain heavy and clean.
- Layered Saturation: Use multi-band distortion to sculpt unique mid-range grit.
- Diverse Textures: Create 808s ranging from short, punchy trap stabs to long, evolving notes perfect for drill slides and experimental electronic music.
To accomplish this, I handles each sample as an individual sound-design project before bringing them together for final sequencing and export.
Anatomy of the Pack

1. Structural Organization & Length Variations
Looking at the playlist arrangement, you can immediately see the massive variation in decay times and envelope shapes across the samples.
- Short & Punchy: These waves taper off quickly. They are designed for fast, energetic patterns where the bass needs to hit hard and rapidly get out of the way of the kick drum.
- Sustained & Evolving: These longer waveforms give producers enough tail length for glide notes, pitch automation, and sidechain pumping effects.
2. Waveform Geometry and Texture
If you zoom in closely on the waveforms, you’ll notice they are not simple sine waves. Each sample contains different harmonic movement, saturation, and distortion characteristics.
The thicker waveform sections represent heavily saturated and compressed 808s with consistent energy throughout their tail. The textured wave cycles are created through distortion and wave-shaping techniques, giving every sound its own aggressive character.
3. Systematic Color Coding
Sound design can quickly become chaotic. To maintain workflow efficiency, the 808s were categorized into different tonal groups.
- Deep Blue / Indigo: Clean, deep, and sub-focused tones with smooth harmonic saturation.
- Purple / Magenta: Mid-focused aggressive 808s with gritty clipping characteristics for darker trap and rage productions.
- Red / Crimson: Overdriven experimental low-end textures designed for maximum energy in industrial and heavy drill placements.

Generating the Core
Every sample started with a clean, carefully designed foundation using pure sine and triangle wave sources. Each patch was tuned precisely to C, making the 808s instantly playable across MIDI keyboards without requiring additional pitch adjustments.
The Art of Asymmetric Distortion
Instead of relying on simple limiting techniques, the process focused on controlled multi-band distortion. The sub frequencies below 80Hz were preserved for maximum low-end power, while the mid and high frequencies were enhanced with harmonic saturation to create a powerful character that remains audible even on smaller speakers.
Shaping the Envelopes
Precise volume and pitch envelopes were used to define the personality of each 808. Some samples feature aggressive pitch drops at the beginning for a hard-hitting kick-style impact, while others use smoother attacks to leave space for the kick drum and create a cleaner low-end relationship.
Exporting and Quality Control
The final stage involved exporting every sample as high-quality 24-bit WAV files. Each sound was carefully normalized, cleaned, and trimmed at zero-crossing points to remove unwanted clicks or pops while maintaining maximum quality.
